Rachel Lee McClure is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow pursuing her PhD in the UW – Madison Astronomy Department. Her research is an exploration of the formation and evolution of bars in disk galaxies. On the theory side, she uses isolated simulations of disk galaxies similar to the Milky Way to study how stellar orbits evolve as they interact with a galactic bar. In observational work, she studies bar evolution with spatially resolved galaxy observations across the electromagnetic spectrum, and across cosmological time.
