Dr. Megan Moreno is a Professor of Pediatrics and Affiliate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the academic chief for the division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and serves as Vice Chair of Academic Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Moreno is the Principal Investigator of the Social Media and Adolescent Health Research Team (SMAHRT);her research focuses on the intersection of technology and adolescent health.

Social media and adolescent mental health
The relationship between adolescent social media use and mental health is critical to understanding how we can best support youth. This talk reviews the current evidence, including 3 proposed hypotheses, how this debate aligns with previous technological advancements, and strategies to support youth’s technology use with resources from the Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health.

This talk will review problematic technology use, its origins and history, how we can screen for it in clinic, and strategies for prevention and intervention.
