Dr. Howell’s program of research centers on the health and well-being of children and families. She assesses individual, relational, and community factors that enhance resilience or reduce psychopathology following exposure to traumatic events. Dr. Howell has developed a research specialization in strengths-based interventions to promote wellbeing in children and families experiencing trauma.

Resilience in Children Experiencing Adversity
Dr. Howell will present a series of studies that showcase her research on the development of interventions for families and children experiencing violence and other adversities. This work includes dual-generation programming to address child maltreatment, as well as cultural adaptations for intervention dissemination internationally. Dr. Howell will highlight her work using longitudinal methods that capture the interplay of risk and protection over time. She will also discuss her community-engaged scholarship to promote well-being for children and families experiencing adversity.
