I am a social scientist who focuses on strategies to responsibly govern emerging environmental biotechnologies. I study stakeholder and public engagement as a means to influence the research, development, and regulation of innovations such as genetically engineered trees, gene drive organisms to control pests, and the genetic biocontrol of invasive species.
Talks:
When biotechnology goes "wild"
While many environmentalists have opposed biotechnology in agriculture and food, what happens when biotechnology is developed for environmental benefit? I work with scientists and stakeholders interested in the responsible innovation of environmental biotechnologies, and I specialize in public and stakeholder engagement to inform governance decisions.
