Jan Huisken received his PhD in Physics from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg. He was trained as a physicist but has worked in developmental biology using his expertise in microscopy. He has been a postdoc at UCSF in San Francisco before becoming a Max Planck Research Group Leader in Dresden. Since August 2016 he has been the Director of Medical Engineering at the Morgridge Institute for Research where his team develops custom light microscopes.
