James Maynard has supported the University of Wisconsin Idea for over 20 years. Maynard consults in his spare time and works as the lecture demonstrator on campus. Maynard advises the Chemistry Fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma and creates educational materials. He considers himself a problem solver. As a veteran and a resident of Wisconsin, he has a special relationship with UW Madison. His path to a career in science has been arduous and fulfilling. He has dedicated his passions for the Wisconsin idea with his appreciation of science to support the outreach mission of the Department of Chemistry and the University. As a part of his outreach efforts, Jim was a guest and contributor to the UW -Madison Annual Christmas Lecture “Once Upon a Christmas Cheery in the Lab of Shakhashiri ” for many years. Jim has performed chemical demonstrations for over 100,000 UW-Madison and other students during his career, and in 2018 received the UW-Madison Academic Staff Excellence Award for Service to the University.
Speaker fee applies only when speaking for large organizations, when asked to perform chemical demonstrations, or if the engagement requires an overnight stay.
