Jacob Thebault-Spieker is an Assistant Professor in the iSchool at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Associate at Virginia Tech, and earned his PhD from the University of Minnesota.

His work focuses on information gaps that get produced in online communities, with a particular eye towards differences between rural and urban areas. He both studies the mechanisms that underpin these information gaps, and designs new kinds of software tools to address these problems.
