Daniel G. Hummel is the Program Curator for Academic Communities at Upper House, a Christian study center located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also an Honorary Research Fellow with UW-Madison’s History Department. A historian of U.S. religion and foreign relations, Daniel is the author of Covenant Brothers: Evangelicals, Jews, and U.S.-Israeli Relations (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2019) and has written for the Washington Post, Jerusalem Post, Aeon Magazine, and Religion News Service.

Conservative evangelical Christians in the United States have become strong supporters of the state of Israel. How old is this relationship? How deep does it go into the Christian community? And just as importantly, what are the motives behind this support?
