Dr. Buckland is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Mechanical Engineering. He is an Emergency Physician for UW Health, conducting research in space medicine and the application of AI to provide hospital-level care, from the ER to Mars. He holds an MD from Harvard Medical School and a PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. He lives in Madison and before coming to Wisconsin he worked for NASA in human spaceflight planning for Lunar and Mars missions.

Health Risks of Space Exploration
Exploring the Moon and Mars with humans will be dangerous. This talk explores the health and performance risks of exploration spaceflight and what research is going on at UW – Madison to mitigate and characterize these risks.
Medical Robotics and Automation
This talk discusses how new and emerging technology in robotics and AI will change the healthcare experience for patients, and the work being done to bring it to all areas of Wisconsin.
