Yoshiko M. Herrera is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research on Russian politics;nationalism, identity, and ethnic politics;political economy and state statistics (national accounts);and international norms, has been published with Cambridge University Press, Cornell University Press, the American Political Science Review, Perspectives on Politics, Comparative Politics, Political Analysis, Journal of Peach Research, Social Science Quarterly, Post-Soviet Affairs, and other outlets. At UW–Madison, Herrera teaches courses on comparative politics, the Russian War on Ukraine, social identities and diversity, and post-communist politics. In 2021, she was a recipient of the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award at UW-Madison.

Daniel Hummel

Daniel G. Hummel is the Program Curator for Academic Communities at Upper House, a Christian study center located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also an Honorary Research Fellow with UW-Madison’s History Department. A historian of U.S. religion and foreign relations, Daniel is the author of Covenant Brothers: Evangelicals, Jews, and U.S.-Israeli Relations (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2019) and has written for the Washington Post, Jerusalem Post, Aeon Magazine, and Religion News Service.

Andrew Kydd

Andrew Kydd received his Ph. D. in political science from the University of Chicago in 1996 and taught at the University of California, Riverside and Harvard University before joining the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin in the fall of 2007. His interests center on the game theoretic analysis of international security issues such as war, terrorism, trust and conflict resolution. He has published articles in the American Political Science Review, International Organization, World Politics, and International Security, among other journals. His first book, Trust and Mistrust in International Relations, was published in 2005 by Princeton University Press and won the 2006 Conflict Processes Best Book Award. His second book, International Relations Theory: the Game Theoretic Approach, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2015.

Alfred McCoy

Alfred W. McCoy holds the Harrington Chair in History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After earning his Ph.D. in Southeast Asian history at Yale University in 1977, his writing has focused on three topics–the political history of the modern Philippines, modern empires, and the covert netherworld of syndicate crime and state security. His recent book, “In the Shadow of the American Century: The Rise and Decline of U.S. Global Power”, explores the history of the United States as a global power, focusing on the key instruments in its exercise of this hegemony—including, geopolitical dominion, control of subordinate states, covert operations, surveillance, torture, and military technology. It concludes by analyzing China’s challenge and the complex of forces that will likely lead to an eclipse of U.S. hegemony by 2030.
