Lazzara is an Associate Scientist and Research Meteorologist at the Antarctic Meteorological Research Center (AMRC), Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC), UW–Madison. He is presently the Principal Investigator of the Antarctic Automatic Weather Station Program, Antarctic Meteorological Research Center and Arctic Satellite Composite Project. In the AMRC, Lazzara supports and maintains the generation and archive of Antarctic weather data, including the Antarctic satellite composite images and the processing of SSECs Automatic Weather Station (AWS) data collected by the AWS network in Antarctica. Additionally, he investigates meteorological phenomena in the Antarctic and conducts educational outreach activities with schools and organizations.

She joined the Grainger Institute for Engineering at UW-Madison in August 2016. Prior to that, Angela led two research centers in the College of Engineering, held a leadership position as the external relations manager for the UW Office of Sustainability, and led the green building design and development of several major building projects for UW-Madison including Union South, the Wisconsin Energy Institute, Human Ecology and the School of Education Building. She’s been with UW-Madison since 2006 and is a proud mom of two great kids!

He grew up in the Wisconsin-adjacent city of Red Wing, MN, before crossing the river to call Wisconsin home. As an undergraduate student he earned degrees in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and as a PhD student he was awarded a fellowship in computational science. His research topics include the mathematics of weather and climate, and algorithms for solving math and physics problems on computers.

From a broad perspective, he conducts research in energy geotechnics, the beneficial reuse of industrial byproducts, remediation of metals-contaminated sites, and rail substructure material testing and modeling. He developed these research interests as a consulting engineer for 10+ years at two internationally prominent engineering firms and through discussions and interactions with practitioners participating in his national continuing engineering short course programs.
